Play Submissions

We only accept full manuscripts submitted by literary agents and theatre professionals with whom we have a prior relationship.

Chicagoland writers without representation can submit a short bio along with a synopsis, character breakdown and ten pages of sample dialogue from both new and previously produced plays. We ask that writers please also describe how their submission fits the mission of Writers Theatre in their email or cover letter. If the material interests us, we will contact you to request the full script.

We produce language-driven plays in intimate environments. More specifically, we value scripts in which the human experience is elevated through poetry, circumstance, or theatricality. We are drawn to plays that feature a sophisticated use of language, rich characterization, and also reveal new perspectives on the human heart.
