Sarah Gabel
At Writers Theatre: Arms and the Man
Sarah serves as Chairperson of the Department of Fine and Performing Arts at Loyola University Chicago where she has been teaching, acting, and directing for the over 20 years. Chicago directing credits include: Climbing the Volcano (Piccolo Theatre), The Infernal Machine (Eclipse Theatre Company), and The Fantastiks (Touchestone Theatre). An admirer of the works of Steven Sondheim, Sarah has directed seven of his plays, including Sweeney Todd. Sarah has directed several premiere performances including: Not Even the Children by Chicago playwright Philip Dawkins, The Devil in Disputanta by Chicago composer William Underwood, book by Johnny Payne, Bully by Paul D'Andrea, and Amorphous George by Glen Merzer. She considered it a special treat to create her "Arms" family with her real life husband Jonathan Weir and former student Elizabeth Ledo.
