The On to a New Stage Campaign seeks to raise special funds that will guarantee the future of this cultural and educational resource for generations to come. The establishment of our new theatre center strengthens Chicago's North Shore as a national destination for culture. We hope you will join us in supporting a project that places Writers Theatre permanently on the map as a major contributor to the landscape of the American Theatre.
Below are brief descriptions of some of the major ways to participate, but please know that we welcome gifts of any amount. Major gifts may be pledged over a period of three to five years.
On to a New Stage Campaign donors who contribute gifts of $25,000 have the opportunity to be recognized with a named chair in the new center’s Alexandra C. and John D. Nichols Theatre. This is a unique recognition that will be permanently engraved into the wooden arm of the chair. The opportunity to name a chair is exclusive, as there are only 250 seats in the Nichols Theatre, designed to reflect the intimate theatrical experience that Writers Theatre provides for its audiences. Chairs may be named for the donor, or may be dedicated in honor or memory of a friend or loved one as a lasting tribute.
A singularly spectacular feature of Writers Theatre’s new home is the stunning custom-designed On to a New Stage Campaign Donor Wall located at the main entry of the theatre center and constructed of beautiful white oak. The wall contains engraved names of all of the leadership donors who have participated in the Campaign at a level of $100,000 and above. This permanent, highly-visible centerpiece was designed by Jeanne Gang as a lasting tribute to honor those donors who have made the center possible, and it will be seen by all patrons and visitors. Gang’s design for the Donor Wall is inspired by the supporting wooden substructure essential to half-timber construction, often seen in Tudor architecture, which is referenced throughout the new center.
There are a number of exciting, individualized naming opportunities throughout the new theatre center, beginning at a donation level of $250,000.
Each space is unique to the building, and donors who name spaces will be prominently featured in tandem with the area they name. In addition, these donors will be included on the Campaign Donor Wall. These exciting opportunities are available for review, if desired.
