Is a published playwright, award-winning actress, producer and co-founder of Writers Theatre in Glencoe, Illinois. Her co-adaptation of Dostoevsky's Crime and Punishment won Chicago's 2003 Joseph Jefferson Award for Best New Adaptation and was named Top Pick at the Orlando Shakespeare Festival's Harriett Lake Festival of New Plays. Other full length plays include My Own Stranger, a co-adaptation (with Linda Laundra) based on the writings of Pulitzer Prize-winning poet. Anne Sexton, which had its world premiere at the Provincetown Playhouse (New York, NY) and was awarded a Villager Downtown Theatre Award as one of the Outstanding Productions of the 1981 Off Broadway Season; The Beats, based on the writings of the 1950's beat poets, and The Gospel According to Mark Twain, a co-adaptation based on the later writings of Mark Twain, which had its world premiere at the Edinburgh Festival. In 2007, Campbell received a second commission from Writers Theatre to create a new adaptation based on Mary Shelley's Frankenstein, currently titled The Monster's Lullaby. She is also co-authoring and performing in on original performance piece with her daughter Maria Merrin entitled Mixing it Up. Campbell also has over 25 years of experience as an actress performing on Broadway, off-Broadway, in Europe, Chicago and throughout the United States including the Williamstown Theatre Festival, Charles Playhouse, Hedgerow Theatre and the BoarsHead Theater. In addition to co-founding Writers' Theatre in Chicago, Campbell also co-founded Writers' Theatre in New York in 1975 with Lindo and David Laundro, Mary Jane Gibbons, Tom Fontana and John Whitesell.
