Chicago credits include Congo Square Theatre Company, Goodman Theatre, Victory Gardens Theater, Steppenwolf Theatre Company, eta Creative Arts Foundation and About Face Theatre. Regional credits include Alliance Theatre, Mark Taper Forum, St. Louis Black Repertory, Berkeley Repertory, American Conservatory Theatre, Indiana Repertory Theatre, Seattle Repertory, Penumbra Theatre, Arena Stage, Alabama Shakespeare Festival, Two River Theatre, Geva Theatre Center, Brooklyn Academy of Music and Playmakers Repertory. Off-Broadway credits include Manhattan Theatre Club and New Federal Theatre. International credits include works in Switzerland, Germany, Austria and South Africa. She is the recipient of the NAACP Image Award, several Black Theater Alliance Awards and has been nominated for the Audelco Awards and Los Angeles Stage Alliance Ovation Awards. She is the editor of six anthologies focusing on African/African Diaspora women. In 1995, Kathy co-curated a major exhibition titled ONSTAGE: A Century of African American Stage Design at Lincoln Center in New York City. She has traveled to over 40 countries as a lecturer and conducting lighting workshops. Kathy is professor Emerita of the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign and University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
