Cathy Jean Maloney
At Writers Theatre: Sunday Spotlight: Landscape Gardening
Cathy Jean Maloney is a lifelong Chicago area resident and garden historian. After twenty-plus years as a corporate consultant, Cathy began her second career in communications. As Senior Editor of Chicagoland Gardening magazine, she explores hundreds of private and public regional gardens. Her most recent book, Chicago and Its Botanic Garden: The Chicago Horticultural Society at 125 was released in 2015 along with an exhibit of the same name.
Cathy has a B.B.A. from the University of Notre Dame, and an M.B.A. from Northwestern University. She has consulted with clients ranging from small nonprofits to Fortune 500 companies. She is the author of World’s Fair Gardens: Shaping American Landscapes, which won the American Horticultural Society Book Award. Her books Chicago Gardens: The Early History (2008),and The Gardener’s Cottage in Riverside, Illinois (2009) both won awards from the Illinois State Historical Society. She teaches at both The Morton Arboretum and at the Chicago Botanic Garden, and also at the University of Chicago's Graham School. She has published many articles in magazines such as Better Homes and Gardens, Landscape Architecture, and Gardens Illustrated. She has appeared on numerous radio and TV shows, and offers presentations throughout the country.
