His work has appeared at Goodman Theatre, Steppenwolf Theatre Company, Chicago Shakespeare Theater, The Second City, Lookingglass Theatre Company, Court Theatre, The Chicago Theatre, Ravinia Festival, Drury Lane Theatre, Luna Negra Dance Theater, Northlight Theatre, Victory Gardens Theater and TimeLine Theatre Company, among many others. Regional credits include Guthrie Theater, The Children's Theatre Company, Virginia Opera, Opera Omaha, Milwaukee Repertory Theater, Madison Repertory Theatre and Circle X Theatre Co., among others.

Film production design credits include Wallace Shawn's Marie and Bruce, Holding Out, Stray Dogs, Late for Church and he designed the scenery for Muppets from Space. Bembridge is a multiple recipient of the Joseph Jefferson Award, L.A. Drama Critics Circle Award, Garland Award and an L.A. Weekly Award.
